Memorial Day Safety Reminders

As Memorial Day weekend approaches, the Dixon Police Department reminds all residents and visitors to celebrate safely and responsibly.

Memorial Day is a time to honor and remember those who gave their lives in service to our country. It is also a time when many families and friends gather, travel, and enjoy the start of summer. Please help us keep our community safe throughout the holiday weekend.

Safety Reminders:

Drive responsibly.
Expect increased traffic and always wear your seatbelt. Do not drive under the influence of alcohol, cannabis, or any impairing substance.

Grill safely.
Keep children and pets away from hot surfaces. Never leave a barbecue unattended and follow all fire safety rules, particularly in high-risk areas.

Watch for pedestrians and cyclists.
With more people outside, reduce your speed in residential areas and remain alert for those walking, running, or riding bicycles.

Avoid illegal fireworks.
Fireworks pose a serious risk of injury and fire. Please leave fireworks to the professionals.

Report suspicious activity.
If you see something concerning, contact the non-emergency line or call 9-1-1 in the event of an emergency.

The Dixon Police Department wishes you a safe and respectful Memorial Day weekend. Thank you for doing your part to help ensure a peaceful and enjoyable holiday for all.
